Myocardial Ischemia

A number of patient's with myocardial ischemia are increasing and as a leading
cause of death, in which Thai people die year by year. Some symptoms are as
follow: chest pain, chest discomfort, arrhythmia (abnormal rate of heart beat),
dyspepsia, exhaustion and fainting from unknown causes.Person with these
symptoms should better consult physician for treatment.

What is myocardial ischemia? What are the symptoms?

How does it happen?

Myocardial ischemia is a disease that the myocardium (heart muscle) has not
enough blood supply it may arises from many causes, usually from the stricture
coronary artery (main blood supply of heart muscle). It makes people have
symptoms, such as chest pain (feels like something heavy, compressing the
chest wall) Often the area of pain can be at the neck, jaw or shoulder.
The person feels exhaustion, sweating and death might at the end. If a person
has chest pain, about 15-20 minutes or any one the symptoms above, we
strongly recommend to consult physician immediately.

What are the risks factors of this disease?

- Hypertension (high blood pressure level)
- Presence of excess lipids in the blood
- Smoking
- Diabetic person
- Obesity
- Stress
- less exercise
- Ages Over 40 for men and age 50 for woman or ...climacteric (menopause)
- Related family member has this disease

What are the treatments of this disease?

After diagnosis, physician will not only give medications, but also advice on how
a person should take care of his or her way of living.

SUGGESTION
- Stop smoking
- Avoid fatty diet
- Exercise regular
- Get rid of stress
- enough rest
- Adequate control of body weight, blood pressure and blood sugar
- Have medication regulary under supervision of physician

TREATMENT.
- medication control
- Surgery

eq. Indent widening of blood vessel by balloon, widening of blood vessel by guide
wire or surgery. These procedures, for making enough blood supply to the heart.

Myocardial ischemia is a chronic disease and is curable, and a person can have
a normal life if he avoids risks and has adequate self care.

CERVICAL CANCER

Cervical cancer is a common cancer disease found in women, especially in adult,
elderly and the risk group with related causes such as:

- Early onset of first sexual relationship (before age 18).
- Multiple sexual partners.
- History of sexual transmitted diseases, such as wart, herpes.
- Women who have given birth to many children
- Smoking
- Use of contraceptives for a long time.

Cervical cancer can be cured if found in early stage. It can be found by a physical examination
which is called "Pap Smear" of cervical cell..

How can this disease happen?

The disease is caused by genital viral infection called "Human Papilloma Virus" or "HPV". It changes the layer covering the cervix, make it progress, and turn to be cancer at the end. Some are of unknown causes. In early stage, it may not show any symptoms and can be cured.

Symptoms which may occur

- Abnormal menstruation, such as more than once a month, less than 28 days,
...or period changing.
- Pelvic pain (pain at low belly),
- Vagina whitish discharge continuously.
- Vaginal bleeding after having sexual relationship.

How can we have self-protection against cervical cancer?

- Take pelvic examination and Pap smear every year after first sexual
...relationship, or unmarried woman over 35 year old. It helps to have early
...diagnosis to cure the disease.

How to prepare yourself before cervical examination.

- Avoid sexual relationship, or any vaginal suppositories and douching of vagina
...at least 24-48 hours.
- If woman have menstruation, postpone examination 1 week after.

DIABETES MELLITUS (DM)

Diabetes are increasing in world population up to 177 million, because people
have less exercise and poor diets.

What is Diabetes Mellitus? (DM)

DM is a chronic disease which causes blood sugar levels higher than normal
people. Arising caused when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin
(hormone control blood sugar level), or it produces enough but the body
cannot utilize because of its resistance to insulin.

What are the risks for being diabetic?

- People older than 40 years old
- Family member is diabetic.
- Obesity: body mass index or (BMI) greater than 25
- Lack of exercise
- History of high blood sugar level (fasting blood sugar more than 126)
- Hypertension: blood pressure is greater than 140/90 mmHg
- Presence of excess lipids in the blood (cholesterol HDL <=35, Triglyceride>= 250)
- Multiple ovarian cysts

What are the symptoms of this disease?

- Eat a lot and often hungry
- Void often
- Massive amount of urine
- Always thirsty
- Weight loss even eating a lot
- Fatigue and tiredness
- slow wound healing
- Repeated wound infection

How can you avoid being diabetic?

Regular exercise often at least 30 minutes a day and 3 times a week. For example,
jogging, speed walking, swimming and cycling. Control body weight by diet and
exercise. Having blood sugar level test every year, especially for a person who
is more than 40 years old, or a person that a family member is diabetic.

RENAL FAILURE

Kidneys are invaluable. They are used for cleaning out body waste and controlling
body electrolytes. If both kidneys are destroyed, the body will be unable to eliminate waste, cannotexcrete (EXCRET) water, and can lose electrolyte.

What are the causes of this disease?
Renal calyx disease, vascular stenosis (blood vessel compressed) or vascular
thrombosis (blood vessel obstructed by blood clot), diabetes mellitus, SLE
(systemic lupus erythematosus) which isan auto immune disease and side
effect of some medications.

What are the symptoms of this disease?
It may feel like nothing is changing but when the disease is advanced it can cause
many symptoms, such as frequent voiding at night, constant fatigue (always tired), numbness around fingers and toes, muscle cramps, seizures, poor appetite, nausea
and vomiting.

How to treat this disease?
The treatment consist of preventing the advancement of this disease, such as dehydration(depletion of body fluids) and avoid toxic agent and nephrotoxic drugs (medication causingdamage to kidneys), heart disease and infections from microbial organisms.

The treatment is described as follows:
- Diet control
- Hemodialysis
- Peritoneal dialysis (clean out body waste by inserting dialysis tube through the
...belly and washing by dialysis fluids)
- Renal transplantation

What is hemodialysis? How does it works?
Hemodialysis is the way to clean out body waste by machine. It takes about
2-4 hours and should be done at least 3 times a week. You are able to eat or
read books during treatment.

What is renal transplantation?
Renal transplatation is putting a normal kidney in a person with renal failure by
surgery. It requires matching between donor (the person giving the kidney)
and recipient (the personreceiving the kidney) without getting rid of the old one.

After transplantation, a recipient, must have life-long medication (lowering body -immune) to avoid rejection of kidney, and must have good health care too.

ALLERGY

What are allergies?

Reaction of human body when exposed to protein or allergen from environment
which normally, does not affect normal people. Allergenic effects show such as
skin rash, allergic rhinitis, chest discomfort. Usually, allergens can be dust,
pet, animal dandruff, egg white, seafood, beans, medicines, and cockroaches.

Causes

It's caused by an environment that may have many allergens, and the disease
can be from family trait.

Why do some people often have allergies?

There are many causes for example: less exercise, spending a long time in poor
ventilated rooms, eating fast food (junk food), eating any preservative contained
in foods, breeding pets, exposure to industrial pollution, exposure to traffic
pollution and smoking.

Residential allergen

It many be pet, animal dandruff, spittle, sweat, and fungus.

How can we make self-protection against allergy?

Airing rooms by opening all doors and windows for good ventilation at least 1 hour
2 time a day for those who are, allergic to pollens they should close the windows.
(Not to dry out clothes in bedroom and living room.)

Note:

For people who have allergies, how can they have self care?
Do not keep any pets in home, especially in bed-rooms.
